It was great to see so many friends from other clubs take part. Well done to all competing Archers – especially our visitors from across the border in Norfolk. We believe several Norfolk County records were achieved! Congratulations all.

Big thanks to the Ravens team too! Everyone pulled together to launch our first tournament in style!

And also thanks to Penny for the lovely cake! Safe to say there was not a lot left after the presentations.

Kevin Wheeler Wins Living Sport’s volunteer awards scheme!

Living Sport has launched the new monthly volunteer award scheme in April to recognise the great contribution that volunteers are making to enable community sport to happen around the county.

Kevin has named the winner for the first month. On the 12th May he received an award of a certificate and two free tickets to the annual Living Sport Sports Awards in November.

Simon and Kevin Ravens2

Kevin has been an integral member of Ramsey Ravens Archery Club since the early days of the club. He has taken on the role of a coach, doing training in his own time, to make sure the club could hit vital targets.

He takes an active role in hosting pay and play events as well as beginner courses and coaching others individually.

He also volunteers the use of his vehicle and trailer to help the club move equipment to different sites allowing them to host events around the community.

On top of everything else he has also designed and devised equipment to help around the club.

A Fantastic Start to the Outdoor season!

With the sun shining and temperature holding steady well into the mid teens, we had a fantastic start to out first official shoot of the outdoor season last Saturday afternoon.

To make the day even more perfect, well done to Leo for pulling off the ultimate shot – the club’s first ever Robin Hood!

“That’s odd, where’s my other arrow?”

“Just call him Robin!”

Dad, Ian, has just told Leo he’ll need to pay to replace the club arrows! … Only kidding Leo, Ramsey Ravens will let you have that one on us!

April Pay ‘n’ Play

After the unfortunate cancellation of the March Pay ‘n’ Play due to the terrible weather; alongside the club shoot we also ran the first of our monthly Pay ‘n’ Play sessions of the year.

It was great to see so many new faces, lots of happy smiles and plenty of burst balloons so hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves!

Looking Forward

Over the coming months, there are plenty of open events where you can meet the club and have a go at archery. More information about this will be announced throughout the year as details are finalised.

Along with our Pay ‘n’ Play sessions that are held on the first Saturday of each month from now until November. If you are interested more information can be found here.

Or if you are more interested in Archery on a more regular basis and join Ramsey Ravens as a full member, you can attend one of our three Beginner’s Courses throughout the year. More details here.

REMEMBER – Ravens need to book a place too!

We have enough helpers for the day, so will be hoping to see lots of Ravens shooting on the line. It’s a relaxed, home event, so ideal for your first competition if you’ve not done one before.  If you’ve got any concerns please ask and we will try and help 🙂

What a great result!

Archers from Ramsey Ravens Archery Club notched up a string of successes in a county competition. At the Cambridgeshire end of season shoot at Parkfield Archers in Wimblington, the team members defeated three teams to win the competition.

Team members took gold and silver in their respective classes. Club secretary, Helen Curtis-Bridges said: “This is a wonderful result for the club. We’ve worked really hard to get to this point , and thank everyone who has shown help and support over the last year.”

Ravens Have A New Nest

Thanks to our new friends Snowmountain Enterprises, Ramsey Ravens are moving to a new home at The Old Nene Golf and Country Club. As of mid-March club shooting will take place on the Driving Range, the clubhouse facilities will be available where we can enjoy post-shoot refreshments and socialise with members of the golf club.

Snowmountain and Old Nene Golf Club share our vision of making our sports as friendly and welcoming to newcomers as possible, catering for occasional, social participants as well as the more competitive, performance focussed athletes.

Rudolph visits the Ravens

The Ramsey Ravens were surprised by a visit from Rudolph this week. A fun festive shoot had been planned for the club members, Amongst the fun and laughter a surprise visitor arrived. Rudolph gave everyone hugs and Christmas wishes, and even took time out to shoot a few arrows.

Members watched with amusement as Mark provided Rudolph with an impromptu lesson. Normally we ask that people book on our pay and play sessions which are open for everyone to come and have a go at archery … Even reindeers, but as Rudolph was on a tight schedule we made an exception!

The festivities continued with a prize raffle with lots of gifts kindly donated from local businesses including Clickers, Cobblestones, Pampered Chef, One Leisure, and our local leather worker, Jason. Members had to shoot balloons and other targets to gain tickets. it all soon got every competitive with people vying for prizes … Including the crocheted toilet roll dolly!
